Be Made in the Shade of Northwest Austin
The northwest area of Austin is home to some of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the area. Often overlooked, but never under appreciated by its residents, the neighborhoods of northwest Austin are rife with scenic overlooks, shaded roads and hike and bike trails. Just follow the road up Ranch Road 2222 and you will see the urban city melt into the green, hilly and secluded northwest Austin. Though it may look like an overgrowth of trees and vibrant vegetation, don’t be fooled, northwest Austin has a wealth of services and amenities available to it’s lucky residents.
The neighborhoods of northwest Austin are quiet and secluded. The Far West neighborhood located, as the name may imply, off of Far West Boulevard is only one such community. This community oriented neighborhood is an eclectic mix of young families, graduate students and folks who have been around these parts for decades. A quick turn off of Ranch Road 2222 on to Mesa Drive will land you in the heart of Far West. Living in Far West is like living in a fairy tale forest, complete with babbling creeks and curious deer. Though it is an obvious natural beauty, this neighborhood isn’t far from everything you need, including grocery store, hospitals and schools.
Venture a bit farther north and you will run into the Jollyville neighborhood. This neighborhood has undoubtedly jolly residents as it is the home of the famous Arboretum shopping center. The Arboretum is an outdoor retail space designed to incorporate the green spaces and rock formations natural to the area, with all of the boutique shops and popular national brands that a shopaholic could desire. From Amy’s Ice Cream to a Barnes and Noble Booksellers, the Arboretum has something for every shopper. If you’ve shopped until you literally drop, the Arboretum is home to the world class Renaissance Hotel, one of the most distinctive hotels in the Austin area. Or, perhaps, you’d just like to settle down in the trees of Jollyville.
The residents of northwest Austin have it made in the shade. From taking part in some of the best shopping in the region, to going for a hike up Austin’s Mount Bonnell, to enjoying a Louisiana inspired meal at Chez Zee restaurant, folks in northwest Austin are never lacking in activities. However, in this quiet part of Austin, most folks just want to take a cold drink on to the porch and watch the deer pass by.
