Leander is a city in Williamson and Travis counties outside of Austin, Texas. It is a growing community whose population has jumped from just over 10,000 in the year 2000 to nearly 30,000 today. It is a city with a proud and interesting history. Leander was named for Leander ìCafishî Brown who was a railroad official around the time that the city was founded in 1882. More recently, the discovery of Leanderthal Lady, a skeleton dating back some 10,000 to 13,000 years, made national headlines.
